More new life!

I bought guppies! Yep, I don't know why I was avoiding them for so long. I think I was of the mind that they were too simple, since we had them at school. But really, why should that mean I shouldn't have them? So I bought some, and introduced them tonight. Everyone's getting along so far - except for my kuhli loach, who's glaring at me because he can't hide anymore.

Still going to the gym, still playing darts - although the season's almost over!

Some stuff - and new life

So on Friday L and I went to see 300 - how cool! Seriously, it was very graphic novel, very violent, just ever so fabulous. Trying to decide if I want to buy it when it's out.

To recover from that, L and I joined J* and a bunch of other folks at the Toronto Wine & Cheese Show. It was good, but not as good as other times. Not much swag, not much liqueur, higher cost. The swimming pool at the hotel was really nice though!

Had lunch the next day with L's parents. They like me.

Tonight, I spent the whole freakin' night stooped over the large aquarium - catching the fish, transferring them to smaller containers, getting all the gravel, etc. out, removing it from the stand, replacing it with the smaller aquarium, putting all the gravel and plants and stuff in, migrating the fish, and filling it up. My back is killing me, and now there's a giant aquarium on my kitchen floor and I don't know what to do with it. The fish are all freaked out too, they've lost their colour - I think they'll be okay though...

Back to the Gym!

Holy doodle, I got back to the gym! That's right, I got back! It was difficult too, I had to give up looking for my lock and by my first new one since the 80s (grr), but the gym is as comfortable as I remember it. Now, can I stick to it?

Darts was good this week again, I'm definitely improving.

What else? Oh, on the weekend I bought a new, smaller aquarium - I'm sick of the 20 gallon one with the busted everything in the hood - this will be easier I'm sure. I've got it in the kitchen now, with the filter running, waiting for it to acclimatize before putting my fish in...

Some stuff...

Busy busy, me. Before darts this week I went over to Sonic Boom and made off with Stan Ridgway (Black Diamond and Partyball - which I've wanted on CD forever!), and I played well that night too. Had lunch the next day with one of my old co-workers and had dinner the night after that with L and my old roomie and his bf (had a few drinks, I must say).

Friday was nice, met a bunch of friends at a pub up Yonge street and threw darts and drank for the evening, having a minor war with other pub denizens over what we needed to listen to and playing a new game with some strangers, good times! The weather was, of course, nuts - no surprise of course. It seems whenever I meet friends, it snows like crazy...

Winter eases its grip

It’s 6° celsius out there today. Last week we had a high of -12°. And a bunch of downtown streets were closed due to the Menace From Above. It’s a crazy town, it really is.

Anyway, life’s been good, I got a couple of new DVDs for cheap (West Wing season 7 and Flushed Away), I finished my clapotis cap finally and I’m moving on to the scarf, my dart game is improving, and I just got back from a lovely weekend with the girls getting pampered at a spa, mmm... And weekends with J* are decadent enough as it is without adding pedicures to the mix - as it is, I bought some pretty new sandals for the summer and some new fun undies (cherries are awfully sweet)!

Also, I’ve been thinking about getting my butt back to the gym too. To motivate myself, I bought some new gym pants and a new gym shirt, so I won’t feel like I’m wearing something several years old anymore. I’m going to see if I can drag my butt in there tomorrow morning before work - no guarantees, but we'll see...

February, and all it entailed

Okay, I admit I've been busy, so I haven't had a chance to update my blog for a month! Not a good way to mark my one-year anniversary here... So let me fill you in on my fabulous February:

Tavern was good, we had a couple of new people (who were attached to some regulars). L and I went to his Nona's 90th birthday party in Stoney Creek and then on to Welland to visit my folks for a few hours, which was nice. Huge family! All very nice - L's father kept singing old Italian songs, it was hilarious! When we got back to Toronto we watched Suicide Kings, as L hadn't seen it before.

I brought my friend Ari to my Stitch & Bitch and taught him to knit, and he actually enjoyed it, good sign. it's the last s&b I made it to last month though, everything was just too busy...

...because L and I went to Los Angeles! We based it around Gallifrey One, which was actually cool, but we only went to one day of the Convention, we spent the rest of the time tooling around the area - Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Topanga Canyon, Mulholland Drive, The Getty, the Sunset Strip, Hollywood, Warner Brothers Studios, the Bradbury Building, Dodger Stadium... exhausting! And along with that was the fun of meeting a ton of people that we've known online for a long time but were only now finally meeting, and they're all lovely, aaaw... (pix are on my flickr page, slowly being updated). I bought the Monty Python box set and News Radio set 2, as well as two Wall of Voodoo CDs, Belle & Sebastian's Storytelling and Steve Hackett's Spectral Mornings (yahoo!) from Amoeba...

Got back to playing darts - one truly awful night and another truly fabulous night - spent a bit of money (West Wing season 7 and Flushed Away), watched some DVDs (My Big Fat Greek Wedding and lots of Green Wing), and went to the theatre to see something terrible (Hannibal Rising - completely two-dimensional, by the way, save your money!).

So there you go, all caught up!
