That said, I can think of a few I’ve heard and like...
2010
- Belle & Sebastian — I Want The World To Stop — Not as amazing as some of their earlier stuff, but I still like it.
- Diane Birch — This Corrosion; Tarantula; A Strange Kind Of Love — Great reworkings of some faves from my younger days.
- The Bird And The Bee — I Can't Go For That — Lovely cover of the Hall & Oates original. It’s a whole album of covers actually.
- Devo — Fresh — They’re back!
- Imelda May — Inside Out — I dig the rockabilly/big band/swing thing she’s got going on.
- Janelle Monáe — Tightrope — One of those songs that got used for a bunch of commercials.
- Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. — Bang Bang Bang — A great office dancing song.
- Feist — The Bad In Each Other; How Come You Never Go There — Far more soulful than her previous work, really speak to me.
- Fink — Warm Shadow — Gritty and uncomfortable.
- Foster The People — Pumped Up Kicks — Very summery. Inescapable. Very happy sounding, but I think it’s actually sinister. It would help if I actually listened to the lyrics.
- Kills — Sour Cherry — A super fun song with just the right amount of cowbell.
- Lenka — Everything At Once — Another one that came to me from a commercial.
- MUTEMATH — Blood Pressure — I really dig this one, it’s got a sort of ’70s vibe to it, like it would be on a cassette between Pink Floyd and Steve Miller.
- Two Door Cinema Club — What You Know — So much fun, happy and bright.
- Linnzi Zaorski — Blue Skies; Sweet Lorraine; Better Off Dead; Shine On Harvest Moon — She’s got the sweetest voice, Dad says she sounds like Betty Boop :)
- Lana Del Ray — Blue Jeans; Video Games — The hype was huge, but these two songs are definitely lovely. Have to be in the right mood for it though.
- Bruno Mars — Locked Out Of Heaven — There’s something funky about that lad, seriously. Completely surprised my coworkers with this one.
- Mumford & Sons — I Will Wait — Yep, I like it. Not a surprise, it scratches that folk/acoustic itch.
- Muse — Supremacy — Speaking of itches… modern prog, loud and proud.
- Santigold — Freak Like Me; This Isn’t Our Parade — Great album, doesn’t grab me as much as her previous did but still love it.
