What’s your take?

My brother asked me: What's your take on this whole "Dr Hooters" thing?.....is Santa Claus now a woman?

She’s The Doctor

So, I've had some time to think about the announcement of the new doctor.

Edith Investigates

Edward sat in his usual chair, the high-backed leather one near the fireplace. He wore his slippers, and on the occasional table at his elbow sat a steaming cup of tea. A biscuit, not yet dunked, occupied a small plate beside it. He held the evening’s paper, engrossed in the front-page story.

“Edith, they’re at it again,” he proclaimed to his wife, who sat opposite him in a smaller brocade chair, working on a cross-stitched sampler by the light of a small lamp. “That lot around the corner on Paternoster Row, mixed up in that business.”

“Heavens,” said Edith distractedly, as she chose another thread from her sewing box, “what did they do this time?”

Sssshhh - listen!

Why do we talk to ourselves when alone? Perhaps it's because somewhere, in the bottom of our minds, we know there's someone listening. Spoilers ahead.

Yikes and away - it's Robin Hood!

This weekend's episode of Doctor Who fell directly into the 'light and fun' category. There are spoilers ahead...

Rogue rusty pepperpot

This weekend brought us the second episode of the season of Doctor Who, and we find out if it was just a fluke last week. Look out for spoilers!

Everyone take a deep breath...

On Saturday Peter Capaldi burst from the TARDIS in a flurry of confusion to start the new season of Doctor Who, and he was glorious.

Let’s talk about it. Be warned, SPOILERS ahead!

Packrat tendencies

I'm a packrat. And a clotheshorse. Some of my friends joke that I'm actually a hoarder.

But sometimes I suspect they're not really joking.

Happy Anniversary, Doctor Who!

Cinedork
It’s finally upon us, the day many of us doubted would ever happen – tomorrow marks the 50th anniversary of the first time we saw the strange man with the secret and that dimensionally-transcendent police box that took us away on so many adventures.

Doctor Who was first broadcast November 23, 1963, and in the decades since then it has survived replacement of its lead actor, changing heads of broadcasting, cancellation, film destruction and attempts at Americanization, to come out as one of the most popular shows ever created.

Another day, another Doctor

Know what I like? Police officers who do their job without being a dick. Also veterinarians who are really nice to your pets (T and I are at one right now with Jake, it's not fair to get sick when you're on vacation, aaaw).

Aaah...

T and I are all settled in at the cottage, the cats are meandering and all is well. The forecast for tomorrow is already 2 degrees warmer than it The Weather Network predicted this morning, so I have high hopes!

Apparently there was a big Dr Who-related announcement, I haven't gone online to find out what it is yet. And 12th DOCTOR ANNOUNCEMENT on Sunday, excited! Peter Capaldi has recently been getting bookie attention…

So the announcement was that there was going to be an announcement on Sunday. Feh.

Classic Doctor Who — where to begin?

www.bbc.co.uk
Back in the summer of 2010 I was at a party, discussing Dr Who with a friend who was really getting into the new series. Turned out he hadn’t really watched the classic series at all and was curious as to where he should start. My gut reaction was to suggest ‘start at the beginning!’ but I realized that might be bad, so I told him I’d give it a think and get back to him.

Here’s what I sent him a couple of days later. These are not necessarily considered by all and sundry to be the most iconic, most pivotal, best stories or best performances for each of the Doctors, but they’re the ones I liked for this. Keep in mind, these were my thoughts in 2010…

Capsule post, Autumn 2012

Hrm. So.

Any of you who are familiar with my blog know that I tend to go quiet for a while and then catch up, during which time I just don't write anything at all or I write a bunch of stuff but leave it in draft purgatory. Well, the past few months has been no different - many things have been afoot, so this has had to take a back burner to the rest of life.

Let me just give you a quick rundown...

What an excellent/dramatic weekend!

Clothes Horse

It began with a closet-dive — yes, I’ve decided it’s time to do a purge. I know it’s been time for a purge for a long time, but it I am both a packrat and a clotheshorse, and the two together? Well, dangerous combination. So that means I need a good solid chunk of uninterrupted time. Pulled clothes out and did laundry for two or three hours actually, pretty good. Went to bed well-rested.

Doctor Who: a Tennant marathon!

So Jennskoot and I have been planning a Doctor Who marathon for what seems like two years now, maybe longer, and our schedules (well, let’s be honest — her schedule, she’s always much busier than I am) have never quite allowed for it. But we decided that April Fools’ Day would be the perfect day. Not only was it a lazy grey Sunday, but it was also a great way to avoid all the tricks people like to pull on each other (neither of us appreciate that much). So today we finally did it!

Looking back on 2011

Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had a great night last night. I know I did — they say the way you spend your New Year’s Eve is the way you’ll spend your year, and if that’s true I think I’m going to have an awesome one, surrounded by good food, yummy drinks, great friends (new and old) and glittery nail polish *grin*

So let’s see, what kind of a year was 2011...

Oops, have I been missing again?

I realize I haven't been posting much lately, so here's a little catch-up:

The Impossible Astronaut / The Day of The Moon

Okay, so I have seen the Dr Who season opener two-parter, and I have theories and questions. The Boy does as well, so let’s see what we’ve got. Don’t follow the jump if you don’t want to be spoiler-ed!

Farewell, Sarah Jane.

Last week, on April 19th, Elisabeth Sladen passed away after a quiet battle with cancer. The news came as a complete shock to me, delivered by phone while I was at The Ontario Science Centre with friends, for whom it was also quite a blow. Fittingly, we were standing in an exhibit on disasters. That evening we attended a fundraiser for WhoParty 15 and toasted her memory.

Happy Anniversary to me!

Two anniversaries, actually – three weeks ago I had my 10-year anniversary with my firm, and a year ago today was the closing date on my condo!
