It's ALIVE!

Joss Whedon, that amazing creator of all things awesome (Buffy, Toy Story, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dr Horrible, Dollhouse), has taken the predictable-teens-terrorized-in-the-woods trope and, mad scientist-like, spliced it with a bit of this and a dash of that to create something completely unexpected and riveting. Filmed three years ago, it has navigated the maze of bankruptcy (MGM filed for Chapter 11) and moving house (Distribution picked up by Lion's Gate) to finally see gloom of night to rave reviews. Spoilers ahead!

Doctor Who: a Tennant marathon!

So Jennskoot and I have been planning a Doctor Who marathon for what seems like two years now, maybe longer, and our schedules (well, let’s be honest — her schedule, she’s always much busier than I am) have never quite allowed for it. But we decided that April Fools’ Day would be the perfect day. Not only was it a lazy grey Sunday, but it was also a great way to avoid all the tricks people like to pull on each other (neither of us appreciate that much). So today we finally did it!

So Xognya and I went to see John Carter tonight. It hasn’t been getting very good reviews, so the theatre was far from full. But you know what? I fully enjoyed it! I had to think about it at first though, because I just kept thinking ‘sure, I like it, but how is this a movie that would appeal to anyone else?’…

My first Loose Button Luxe Box has arrived! [UPDATED]

I subscribe to a lot of blogs (many nail polish ones, yeah I know), and I’d been reading about a lot of different goody boxes that people were receiving. Julep Maven, Birchbox, Glymm and Topbox were a few, but after reading some reviews (Let them have Polish!, Body and Soul, The PolishAholic and Swatch And Learn had things to say about some of these) I decided that Loose Button was the way to go for me. I finally submitted a three-month subscription the day after returning from my fabulous trip to Curaçao, and this morning my first Luxe Box arrived!

Love it: Fuji WP-FXF30 Underwater Camera Case

A number of years ago I made one of my best-ever purchases, which was my Fuji F31fd digital camera. This is a sexy little camera, with great low-light performance and fast reaction time. I used to take it with me everywhere (more recently I just use my iPhone, it’s just handier). After J*&P instilled me with a love of snorkelling, I knew there had to be a way to take my beloved Fuji down there with me. And I don’t mean with one of the glorified ziploc bags you see online — I mean with a real, usable case. And in 2007 I found it!

Saw it in Winners mid-January for $8 (regular $14 or so) and thought I'd give it a try. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I saw a difference IN TWO DAYS!

What a fabulous week! For those who didn’t know, I’ve spent the last week on the fabulous island of Curaçao, and I actually have a tan! I joined my cohorts J*&P & Mr Pants and also Jenskoot (our first vacation together!), we spent the week lounging, swimming, snorkelling, imbibing, shopping and even learning to scuba dive. Life? Sweet.

Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had a great night last night. I know I did — they say the way you spend your New Year’s Eve is the way you’ll spend your year, and if that’s true I think I’m going to have an awesome one, surrounded by good food, yummy drinks, great friends (new and old) and glittery nail polish *grin*
